Outpatient Procedures at Bluegrass OBGYN
At Bluegrass OBGYN, we provide a full range of outpatient gynecologic procedures in a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment. Many conditions can be treated in-office with minimally invasive techniques, helping patients avoid hospital stays and enjoy quicker recovery times. Our experienced physicians are here to guide you through every step of care with personalized attention.
Uterine Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial ablation removes the thin lining of the uterus to reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding. This minimally invasive procedure is typically recommended for women whose symptoms haven’t improved with medication or other treatments.
By removing the uterine lining, patients often experience:
- Significant reduction in menstrual flow
- Relief from painful cramping
- Decreased PMS symptoms
- In some cases, complete cessation of periods
⚠️ Note: Pregnancy after ablation is rare but possible, and it carries higher risks. Patients should discuss long-term birth control options with their provider.
NovaSure® Endometrial Ablation "Done in Hospital setting"
NovaSure® is a safe, quick, and non-surgical option for treating heavy periods. The procedure uses gentle radiofrequency energy to remove the endometrial lining in under two minutes.
How it works:
- A slender wand with a mesh array is inserted into the uterus.
- The mesh expands to fit the uterine cavity.
- Radiofrequency energy is delivered for about 90 seconds.
- The device is removed, and the treated lining sheds naturally over 7–10 days.
Most women experience lighter periods or no bleeding at all following NovaSure, along with less cramping and improved quality of life.
Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy allows your physician to look inside the uterus using a slender, telescope-like device called a hysteroscope. It can be performed in a hospital setting and is commonly used to:
- Diagnose causes of abnormal bleeding
- Investigate repeated miscarriages
- Locate and remove intrauterine devices (IUDs)
- Remove uterine adhesions caused by prior surgery or infection
- Perform sterilization procedures
Women who are pregnant should not undergo hysteroscopy.
Birth Control Procedures
We offer a wide range of long-acting and short-term birth control options to meet your reproductive health needs, including:
- IUD insertion and removal (hormonal and non-hormonal)
- Nexplanon® implant placement and removal
- Birth control injections (Depo-Provera®)
- Oral contraceptive counseling and management
- Permanent sterilization procedures
Our providers work with you to choose the safest and most effective option based on your health, lifestyle, and family planning goals.
Colposcopy "In office setting"
A colposcopy is a procedure used to closely examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of disease after an abnormal Pap test. During the procedure, a special magnifying device is used to detect abnormal cells. If necessary, a biopsy may be taken for further testing.
Colposcopies are quick, safe, and essential for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
